Vote for the Cast of Running:AMOK for WAMA Fan Favorite

  The Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES) have just added a new category for non-members and members to vote for. It's the FAN FAVORITE AWARD. This year, while the category of musical theater and cabaret was unceremoniously taken out of the running for the popular award show, this award allows the Liberated Muse production of Running: AMOK to get in the game if you nominate the cast today for the FAN FAVORITE AWARD. (In photo left to right:Lyn Artope, Quineice, Deja Belle, Colie Williams, Rayona L. WAMMIE Nominations Announced, Favorites Nominated

While we were dismayed to see that the cabaret and musical theater categories were absent without any prior word they would be removed from the running, waking up this morn to see the listing of nominees for the WAMMIES was inspiring. Kudos to some of our Liberated Muse favorites who recently were nominated this week for Washington Area Music (WAMMIE) awards, including the hip-hop trio Gods'illa who we first witnessed at our 2008 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest, hip-hop producer and MC Kokayi who inspired the director of the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest, Maceo Thomas to conceive of the idea of the festival, highlighting local talent, soul singer/MC Maimouna Youssef who is managed by Liberated Muse member Diallo Sumbry and local staple Carolyn Malachi who is founder of the organization Smart Chicks. Congrats to you all!

As a member of the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA), was excited to get the ballot to vote for the upcoming WAMMIE awards which will take place in February. The WAMMIES are big time here in the DC metro area and it would be wise for DC area artists to consider joining WAMA to be eligible to be nominated. As an indie artist, it is all about networks you build and broadening your audience. Joining organizations, social networks and associations is helpful because you are putting yourself in a postion to get info on opportunities to perform, market your music, etc. that you wouldn't be privy to as a lone wolf. This is especially true for those indies who don't have the funds to hire an agent or manager to do that on their behalf.

Liberated Muse WAMMIE nominee: Dee Stone of Stone/Wright

We are so happy to learn that Liberated Muse member Dee Stone is a nominee for this year's WAMMIE awards, sponsored by the WAMA and BMI. Dee, and her husband/band member Charlie Wright's first duo collab as Stone/Wright-- out for less than a year was nominated. We are thrilled for them and brag to everyone that we had them a part of our summer book tour shows. Here is their latest video. Enjoy!

Christylez in Concert

Ok, I love this guy. He is very gifted musically, but his public persona on and off the stage is very endearing-- just a gorgeously spirited man. Check him out this coming Monday at the Kennedy Center. He has been making major moves since his appearance at our 2008 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest. An artist-in-residence at the Strathmore (I believe the youngest they've ever had), he has performed at really great venues and will be appearing this summer (actually the same day as this year's Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest) at the Wolf Trap.

Christylez will lead a hour-long concert at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in Washington DC on Monday, February 9, 2009.

The concert is commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History & Culture and the Kennedy Center. The concert features a 12-piece orchestra including String Quartet, Piano, Upright Bass, Tuba, Didgeridoo, Human-Beatbox.

On top of all of that, the event is Free. We likes that:-)
