August 25th , 2010 at Lounge Of Three (1013 Ust, NW DC), rapper/radio host/blogger and perennial host Enoch 7th Prophet will be presentingTHE PRO-SEEDs PROJECT & VIDEO RELEASE PARTY Benefit Show for Prostate Cancer. The show is presented by the radio show he hosts-- Mental Salvation radio and will feature the MC Emperess, and singers Gogo Michelle, Teisha Marie, Mahoganee the Diva, Princess of Controversy, Anonamas, and Chaquis Maliq w/ DJ Earth 1ne on decks.

Liberated Muse supports this event which features several singers who are part of the Liberated Muse network. Almost all of the acts are past featured acts in our Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest and are phenomenal talents. Make sure you support this great cause. 

Teisha Marie on the International Soul Music Summit

Liberated Muse was happy to be a sponsor of the 2009 International Soul Music Summit which was in September. Four of our members registered to participate and wound up being asked to perform. We asked them 5 questions regarding their experience there. Here is a Q & A with songstress Teisha Marie.

Liberated Muse:What were highlights for you from the International Soul Music Summit in Atlanta, GA?

Teisha Marie: The variety of people that were at the conference. Also, those addressing the current state of the music/radio industry.

Liberated Muse: What was something you learned that you didn't know already?

Teisha Marie: I learned of a free resource online called Generation Y Rocker.

Liberated Muse: Who were some folks you enjoyed meeting and why?

Teisha Marie: Subliminal - a "soul-hop" artist from Toronto. His approach to music and performing was refreshing.

Liberated Muse: Was performing in ATL any different than perfoming in DC?

Teisha Marie: I would say it's about the same. You really have to work to get (and keep) an audience's attention. It appears that occasionally people take live performance for granted because it's done often in DC and Atlanta.

Liberated Muse: What did you learn and pick up on that you will probably incorporate into your artist life? What can we expect from you in the next year?

Teisha Marie: I am just going to be more aggressive in terms of my marketing and already unorthodox ways. So, I'll be increasing everything that I already do with just a little more force. I am in the process of gearing up for the next album. So maybe in the next year, that's what you'll see.

This year, Liberated Muse is so proud to learn that several members of the network will be featured as performers at this year's Interntional Soul Music Summit.

The International Soul Music Summit (ISMS) returns to Atlanta, Georgia, September 24th – 27th, 2009 with a new theme, more artists, networking and nightlife activities.

With the theme: A Change Has Come: The Resurrection of The Real Thing the International Soul Music Summit is continuing its mission of educating and exposing soul music in all its forms. The largest music conference in the world dedicated to the soul genre; the International Soul Music Summit provides mainstream, emerging and independent soul artists, retailers, consumers and executives with information, networking opportunities, and technology on how to build noteworthy careers while continuing to make passionate, timeless music.

Terry Bello, Executive Producer/Creator of The International Soul Music Summit and Billboard’s 2006 Music Director of the Year, says this year’s summit will be the event of the soul music world. The Liberated Muse Weekend Was a Hit!

This past weekend on June 19 and June 20, members of the Liberated Muse community joined forces to kick-off the celebration of the new book "Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul".

On Fri, June 19, actress Farah Lawal and poets Maureen Mulima & Margaux Delotte-Bennett shared readings from the book while musical guests James Terrell, Dee Stone, Gary Young, Quiniece Clarkson and Anonamas entertained the crowd with their musical prowess. The event was also a benefit show raising money for four students who are scholarship recipients from the DC College Success Foundation. Although, they are set to receive an Achievers Scholarship, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, these students are not helped with the up front costs such as housing deposits and enrollment fees necessary to even begin school and utilize the scholarship. Almost $400 was raised to on June 19 to assist with these costs.

On Sat, June 20, Liberated Muse took the show to the Artomatic in DC. Performer Teisha Marie joined Farah Lawal, Gary Young and Quineice Clarkson for this hour-long show as the crowd learned about the new book and the upcoming Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest.

A Tickler: A Sneak Peek At Some of the Featured Performers @ the 2009 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest

The 2009 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest will announce next week all of the main acts to grace the stage at the premiere outdoors summer festival which will take place on Saturday, July 25 in Washington DC's Marvin Gaye Park. Here is a sneak peek at some of the slated acts:

Substantial is back again this year after rocking the mic in 2008. This MC is top notch talent and is currently on tour in Europe.

The 5th L



Socially-conscious and lyrically gifted, this group, a staple of Baltimore culture will grace the stage representing the unity of artists up and the down the beltway.

The Infinite Soul Music Family


Last year, Infinite Soul Music first lady Anonamas graced the stage at the debut of the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest. She is back, this time with her boys, representing true hip hop of DC.

The 2009 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest Roster of Acts HOT LIKE FIRE!!

The roster of acts for the 2009 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest are off the chain this year! Two of those acts, Teisha Marie (in the video above) and the 5th L are bonafide stars in their parts of the DMV, lacing music with spoken word and appealing to the nature of fans who like to be intellectually and artistically stimulated.

The 5th L
The 5th L is a Baltimore-based but nationally traveled spoken-word poetry meets hip-hop soul group which is made up of David Ross/Native Son and Femi Lawal/The Dri Fish. They are an action packed poetry experience that delivers spoken word with the skilled theatrics of a Broadway show and the high energy a rap artist exerts on stage and yet able to maintain the poetic integrity of Langston Hughes to entertain and enlighten audiences.

As a duo and band, they have shared stages with international recording artists such as Musiq Soulchild, Saul Williams, Ursula Rucker, Raheem DeVaughn, Bill Cosby, The Last Poets, Fertile Ground, Jaguar Wright, and KRS-One. And in response to The 5th L’s continuous work in the Baltimore city community, Reginald F. Lewis Museum has featured them and their works, written and audio for reading and listen as a permanent exhibit in the museum.

I caught this soul diva last year for the first time in the Can a Sista Rock a Mic festival in 2008 in downtown Silver Spring and she reminded a bit then of a young Afi Soul, the popular DC vocalist who was part of the 2008 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest. However, seeing her later on stage and catching her video above (which is a new favorite of mine), it is clear that this singing diva has a style that is her own, with an appeal that is sure to transcend taste barriers.
