M3: MCs, Mics & Metaphors (M3) explores the creative power of the lyricism and poetry of hip-hop music through visual imagery. The exhibition gathers a group of emerging artists from around the country, each responding to the theme of the MC (Emcee, or Master of Ceremonies) or simply a favorite hip-hop verse or song. These visual artists are working in a variety of media, including photography, mixed media, painting, fashion, design, installation, video and animation.

Liberated Muse Arts Group is a collective of performers, writers, singers, actors and visual artists who gather to transform spaces into art places.

In 2008, the digital community LiberatedMuse.com was born, connecting creatives from around the globe to discuss, collaborate and fellowship. Hundreds have connected through the online portal, beginning meaningful relationships leading to further creative collaborations and ongoing partnerships. Liberated Muse Productions (2008-2010) produced the annual Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest held in Washington DC’s Marvin Gaye Park for three years and after the dissolution of Liberated Muse Productions, Liberated Muse Arts Group became the new name of the umbrella of services in 2011, producing events and theatrical productions throughout the Washington DC metro area.

The aim of Liberated Muse Arts Group is to continuously challenge the notion of an “arts space” by programming in spaces that are not traditionally considered popular art spaces while continuing to use traditional spaces as a balance. We wholeheartedly support artist-owned and community-based venues that connects arts programming to populations that typically don’t have access to professional, high-quality artistry.
